BTS members Jimin and Jungkook were formally freed from the military on the morning of June 11 KST, after serving 18 months of required duty.
The two enrolled on December 12, 2023, and became active-duty soldiers in the Army's 5th Infantry Division Artillery Brigade. After finishing their discharge procedure at the base, they went to Yeoncheon Public Stadium in Gyeonggi Province, where they addressed media and supporters without holding an official ceremony.
Despite the early hour, a considerable crowd had assembled to welcome their return. Jimin and Jungkook emerged, clutching enormous flowers, and the crowd erupted in shouts.
After a lengthy time in front of cameras, the two exchanged a sharp salute and triumphantly exclaimed "Dan-gyeol!" – a Korean military term for unification.
Jungkook thanked everyone who attended. It's been a long time since I've been in front of a camera, and I didn't even apply makeup today, so I'm a bit ashamed. "I don't know what to say," he chuckled.
